Sunday afternoon belongs to the band when The MGM Band returns to The Sixty6 on September 20.
Established in 2008, the Cleveland-area ensemble works across jazz, R&B, soul and Motown. The lineup previously featured at The Sixty6 has included Mike “Babyboy” Bearden on guitar, Girard Berry on keys and musical direction, Monzarllo “Jeff” Jeffries on keys, Michael “Tank” Bryant on bass and Maurice Odom on drums.
For this MGM Band Cleveland performance, the focus is simple: a full band, a Sunday afternoon and two hours to settle into the music. Find a table, order something to eat or drink and make yourself comfortable.

Cleveland multi-instrumentalist Alvin Frazier takes over The Sixty6 stage September 26 for a Saturday night of soul and R&B.
Born and raised in Cleveland, Frazier is a self-taught musician who plays piano, guitar, bass, drums and percussion. His work stretches across R&B, gospel, hip-hop and jazz, with his tenor voice at the center of it.

Guitar and drums get plenty of room to talk when Mike Sopko and Joe Tomino play The Sixty6.
Cleveland-born guitarist and composer Sopko has recorded and performed with musicians including Bill Laswell, Tyshawn Sorey and Dave King. He and drummer Tomino are longtime collaborators, performing together around Cleveland and beyond in projects including the experimental trio Togishi and heavy duo Yellowstone Apocalypse.
This Mike Sopko and Joe Tomino Cleveland set starts early. Grab some food, take a seat near the stage and hear where two musicians with years of shared musical language take the room.

Robinson formed The Jazz Poets in Cleveland in 1997, developing a performance language that puts spoken word and live music in the same conversation. The group became known through its Nia Coffeehouse performances, including a run at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Robinson is also the author of the poetry collection Got Words?
Their Cleveland jazz poetry set at The Sixty6 gives Sunday afternoon to the relationship between language, rhythm and improvisation. Come in, find a table and listen closely.

Cleveland native Glenn Holmes is a bassist, bandleader, composer and longtime jazz educator whose career has included work with Clark Terry, Jimmy Heath, Joe Williams, Cindy Blackman and the Jazz Heritage Orchestra. He studied string bass and music theory at Miami University before earning a master’s in theory and composition from Wichita State.

The Cleveland drummer has described beginning his days practicing riffs and improvising rhythms for The Footprints, the jazz group he leads. The band has remained part of Cleveland’s live jazz circuit, bringing Conwell out from behind the civic title many Clevelanders know and back behind the kit.
