The George Martins bring a deep appreciation for the The Beatles songbook to the stage—less as imitation, more as interpretation. Formed in 2016 for a Beatles-themed hunger relief fundraiser, the Cleveland-based group has grown into a thoughtful ensemble known for exploring the full arc of the band’s music, from early pop harmonies to later studio-era compositions. Their members—drawn from a range of Northeast Ohio bands—bring decades of collective experience to arrangements that treat these songs with care and musicality rather than costume or nostalgia.
Expect a set that moves across eras: the melodic clarity of early hits alongside more intricate later works from albums like Abbey Road and Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. The George Martins are known for tight vocal harmonies, attentive instrumentation, and a sense of joy that invites the room in—whether you know every lyric or are hearing these songs live for the first time. Their performances often highlight songs the original band never toured, offering a different way to hear familiar material.

For more than four decades, Blue Lunch has been a steady presence in Cleveland’s blues landscape—rooted in swing-era blues, jump blues, and classic R&B. Formed in 1984, the band built its sound around tight horn arrangements, harmonica-driven leads, and a deep respect for artists like Louis Jordan and T-Bone Walker. Fronted for many years by harmonica player and vocalist Dan “Daddy Cool” Miller, Blue Lunch became known for its consistent lineup, regional touring, and a catalog that includes recordings like Blue Lunch Special and Above the Fold. Their longevity has made them a reference point for Cleveland blues, with regular appearances at festivals and clubs across Northeast Ohio. Expect a set that leans into groove and familiarity—shuffle rhythms, walking bass lines, and a horn section that carries both melody and punch. Blue Lunch’s live shows are less about spectacle and more about feel: songs unfold with space for solos, call-and-response moments, and the kind of interplay that comes from years of playing together. It’s music that meets listeners where they are, whether you’re following every chord change or simply settling into the rhythm

Abstract Sounds, a Cleveland-based alternative jazz fusion ensemble formed in 2021, leans firmly into the second approach. Led by saxophonist Jevaughn Bogard—whose performance background includes work with artists such as Chick Corea and Donald Harrison—the group brings together jazz, funk, gospel, and soul into a sound built on groove and momentum. Their lineup has expanded into a six-piece configuration, often featuring a strong horn section alongside rhythm players, with core members including Bogard, trumpeter Frank Walton, drummer Ashton Thomas, and bassist Aaron Grayer. Their sound centers on what they describe as bringing a “dance element back to jazz”—music shaped by deep harmony, layered arrangements, and rhythms that invite movement. Influences from artists like Herbie Hancock, Stevie Wonder, and Snarky Puppy come through in the balance between structure and groove. Sets typically include original compositions alongside arranged covers, giving the band space to reinterpret familiar material while developing their own voice.

In Cleveland, some voices are known not just for how they sound, but for where they’ve carried them. Lillian Ruffin is one of those artists—a gospel and soul vocalist whose career has been shaped through church music, community stages, and regional performances across Northeast Ohio. Her work reflects a foundation in gospel tradition, with a delivery that draws on testimony, phrasing, and emotional clarity rather than ornament. Ruffin has been part of ensembles and local programs that center spiritual and soul-rooted music, building a reputation for consistency and connection with audiences. Ruffin’s performances often move between gospel standards, soul interpretations, and contemporary selections, with an emphasis on message and feeling. The pacing allows space for reflection as much as response—moments where the room listens closely, and others where voices join in. Whether accompanied by a small ensemble or backing tracks, the focus remains on vocal presence and the shared experience it creates.

In Cleveland, the name Leo’s Casino carries history. The original club, open in the 1960s and 70s, was a central stop on the Chitlin’ Circuit, hosting artists like James Brown, Aretha Franklin, and The Supremes. Today, Leo’s Casino lives on as a Cleveland-based band and project dedicated to that legacy—revisiting the funk, soul, and R&B that once filled the room at East 75th and Euclid. Their work connects present-day audiences to a specific chapter of the city’s musical past, where touring acts and local players shared the same stage.
At The Sixty6, expect a set built around that repertoire. The band draws from classic soul and funk songbooks, with arrangements shaped for a live band setting—rhythm section forward, horns when possible, and vocals that stay close to the phrasing of the era. The performance moves between danceable grooves and mid-tempo selections, reflecting the range that defined the original venue. It’s music that invites recognition while also placing it back in a Cleveland context.

Some voices stay with you after the set ends. Sharod Brown is that kind of artist. A vocalist from Lorain, Ohio, he draws from gospel roots and the lineage of artists like Michael Jackson, Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Luther Vandross, and Whitney Houston. His approach balances control and feeling—phrasing that’s precise, but never detached. With the release of his debut EP Love Jones this year, Brown is beginning to document a sound that has already been building across stages in Northeast Ohio.
Backed by The R&B Experience, his live set centers on connection. The material moves between original songs and familiar influences, carried by a band that gives space for dynamics—quiet moments, full arrangements, and transitions that follow the shape of the room. Brown’s performances are rooted in storytelling, with songs drawn from lived experience and a clear sense of purpose behind them.

Some sets are built for late nights. Others meet the day where it is. DJ Red-I brings that daytime energy into focus with a set shaped for gathering, movement, and conversation. Working within Cleveland’s broader DJ culture, this approach centers selection and flow—how songs move from one to the next, and how the room responds over time.
For this Saturday Day Party at The Sixty6, expect a mix that draws across genres tied to R&B, hip-hop, and groove-driven tracks. Daytime sets often leave space for range—familiar records, deeper cuts, and transitions that build gradually rather than rush. Whether you’re stopping in briefly or staying for the full set, the music sits alongside the rhythm of the afternoon.

The 150 Trio carries more than a name—it reflects a combined 150 years of blues experience shared between Tim Matson (guitar, vocals), Dave Morrison (harmonica, vocals), and John Lucic (guitar, vocals). Each musician has spent decades in Cleveland’s blues scene, with roots in bands like Mr. Stress, Natural Facts, Aces and Eights, The Hollywood Slim Band, The GeezeCats, and The Wallace Coleman Band. Together, they bring that lineage into a trio format that is direct, seasoned, and grounded in tradition. With two guitars and harmonica at the center, the trio leans into classic blues structures—shuffle rhythms, slow burners, and up-tempo grooves—carried by voices that have lived with this music over time. The format keeps things close: interplay between players, space for solos, and a sense of ease that comes from years on stage. It’s blues that doesn’t need to prove itself, just played and shared.
Free admission, no tickets required.

In Cleveland’s jazz community, some musicians are known as much for their collaboration as for their individual voice. Chris Burge is part of that lineage—a drummer and bandleader whose work moves across jazz, funk, and contemporary improvisation. As a performer and educator based in Northeast Ohio, Burge has built a reputation through steady work with regional ensembles and his own projects, where rhythm and interaction sit at the center of the music.
With the Chris Burge Trio, that approach comes into focus. The trio format leaves room for conversation between players—drums not just keeping time, but shaping direction alongside keys or bass. Expect a set that draws from jazz standards, original material, and groove-based improvisation, with shifts in tempo and feel that respond to the room. It’s music built on listening as much as playing, where each piece can take a slightly different path.

Music rooted in tradition often carries more than sound—it carries memory, craft, and continuity. Bent String works within that lineage, focusing on early American roots music shaped by acoustic instruments and historical forms. Led by Kevin T. Richards, the ensemble draws from country blues, traditional jazz, and roots country, keeping these styles present through performance rather than preservation alone.
Bent String is an early American roots music ensemble led by Kevin T. Richards, a master musician recognized by the Ohio Arts Council for his expertise in country blues guitar. With over 40 years of performance experience, Kevin is a multi-instrumentalist (guitar, fiddle, banjo, mandolin) who brings authentic pre-war acoustic blues, traditional jazz, roots country, and original compositions to life. That background informs a set where instrumentation shifts naturally and songs reflect both tradition and personal interpretation.
At The Sixty6, expect a performance that moves across styles and eras, guided by string instruments and a steady sense of rhythm. The trio setting allows space for each instrument to lead and support in turn—melodies passed between guitar, fiddle, or banjo, with arrangements that feel both structured and open. It’s music that rewards close listening while remaining accessible to anyone in the room.

Some bands build their reputation in real time, one room at a time. Eastbound Band is part of that Cleveland tradition—a group known for blending soul, R&B, funk, and classic favorites into sets that center connection as much as sound. Their presence across Northeast Ohio has grown through live performance, where consistency, musicianship, and audience response define their standing more than recordings or awards.
Eastbound doesn’t just perform, they transform the room. Their blend of soul, R&B, funk, and classic favorites brings people into the set from the first song to the last. Shows often move fluidly between grooves and eras, with space for interaction, call-and-response, and moments that build collectively. Their following reflects that approach—a returning crowd that feels less like an audience and more like a shared community experience, where participation is part of the music.

Some artists carry a city’s sound with them wherever they go. Wallace Coleman is one of Cleveland’s enduring blues figures—a harmonica player and vocalist whose career spans decades of performance across the U.S. and abroad. Known for his work alongside guitarist Robert Lockwood Jr., Coleman spent years touring and recording within that lineage, helping extend a direct connection to Delta and Chicago blues traditions. His own recordings, including Stretch My Money and Live at the Bop Stop, reflect a style rooted in classic blues structures, with harmonica phrasing that is both restrained and expressive. Recognized with multiple Cleveland Blues Society honors and a long-standing reputation in Northeast Ohio, Coleman’s work continues to anchor the region’s blues community.
