Romeo Maxwell & Hard Copy bring a Cleveland R&B story decades in the making to The Sixty6 on September 13. 

Born and raised in Cleveland, Maxwell began singing professionally as a teenager and later formed Hard Copy. His career has taken him from Cleveland stages to Atlanta and back, with performances at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and in front of crowds as large as 18,000. His recorded work includes “Lover’s Ride” and The Romeo Maxwell Project.

When Dwyte Paris and Blue Velvet Ensemble take the stage, Cleveland music history isn’t far away. 

Paris was born and raised in Cleveland and has led Blue Velvet Ensemble through decades of performances here. His own memories of the city’s music scene reach back to seeing Josephine Baker and Count Basie at Playhouse Square and meeting pioneering Cleveland DJ Alan Freed. In June, Paris joined fellow musicians at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame to discuss the past, present and future of Black music in Cleveland. 

On September 18, that history comes into an intimate room in Hough for Blue Velvet Ensemble Cleveland live. Come in, order something from the kitchen or bar and listen.

Cleveland DJ, producer and record collector Brittany Benton is known for sets that move through hip-hop, house, funky breaks and Afro-Caribbean sounds. She is also half of the hip-hop duo FreshProduce, founder of Cleveland producer showcase Beat Freak and owner of Brittany’s Record Shop, which she opened in 2018 with a focus on hip-hop, reggae and soul. 

For this DJ Red-I Cleveland set, we’re giving a serious Cleveland selector the room on a Saturday afternoon. Come ready to hear where she takes it. Food and drinks are available throughout the set.

Sunday afternoon belongs to the band when The MGM Band returns to The Sixty6 on September 20. 

Established in 2008, the Cleveland-area ensemble works across jazz, R&B, soul and Motown. The lineup previously featured at The Sixty6 has included Mike “Babyboy” Bearden on guitar, Girard Berry on keys and musical direction, Monzarllo “Jeff” Jeffries on keys, Michael “Tank” Bryant on bass and Maurice Odom on drums.
