Experience the transcendent sounds of Mourning [A] BLKstar, the Cleveland-based Afrofuturist collective that weaves together live instrumentation and hip-hop production to illuminate the African Diaspora. This multi-generational, gender and genre non-conforming ensemble creates sonic frequencies that tell the stories of America’s unfolding narrative through a uniquely Black cultural lens.
Fresh from their third European tour this year—including standout performances at Le Guess Who? festival, MoMo Fest in Rotterdam, and Crossing Border in The Hague alongside renowned artist Lonnie Holley—Mourning [A] BLKstar brings their internationally acclaimed sound home to an intimate venue setting. Their music has graced stages from Berlin’s Cosmic Awakenings to Tennessee’s Big Ears Festival, earning critical acclaim from The Wire Magazine (cover story), Afropunk, and Paste Magazine.
This boundary-pushing collective has shared stages with Sun Ra Arkestra, L’Rain, U.S. Girls, and Algiers, and their double LP “The Cycle” was recognized as #4 on PopMatters’ top 20 albums of the year. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to witness their powerful blend of experimental sounds and deeply rooted cultural storytelling in an intimate live performance.
Free admission, no tickets required.
